Illustrating the importance of SMS in today's politics, Barak Obama has become the first presidential candidate to use the mobile technology to announce his vice-president.
As promised, the democratic presidential nominee sent an SMS on Saturday to subscribed supporters announcing that he had chosen US Senator Joe Biden to be his running mate. In response, a US based mobile carrier announced its SMS traffic rose 255 percent.
Obama has been using mobile technology throughout his campaign and has a section on his website including SMS, mobile ringtones and mobile voice messages.
