The Mobility Management service of TextPass™ allows the Application to
register to be kept updated when a mobile subscriber is moving (changes
location) or switches his phone on or off (presence). These so-called
mobility events are sent from the network to TextPass™, which passes
the events in plain ASCII format to the Application. Again, the
Application is completely shielded from the complexity of the SS.7
network.
The TextPass™ NAF is either a stand-alone appliance or a (SUN or
Linux) based co-hosted daemon process, both using an SS.7
communications board which can be inserted in any standard PCI slot.
The communication with the Application is done via TCP/IP, using the
SMPP (Short Message Peer-to-Peer) protocol as widely used in the SMS
application industry or using a simple (ASCII) command line interface.
This is up to the application programmer, which makes TextPass™ NAF an
easy to use and versatile solution.
